Look & Inspire Community Pinhole Photography Project
By Jo Howell

Look and Inspire is a creative social project designed to inspire communities, people with mental illnesses, or disadvantaged people in Sunderland to respond to where they live in a visual way.

In artist led workshops learn to build a camera out of recycled materials, and then use the cameras to photograph areas of interest.

The Pinhole project encourages participants to walk around the local area and to see it in a new exciting way, learning to use traditional darkroom techniques.

The project ended in 2015 with an exhibition of the work in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, and 2016 finished with an exhibition at the artists studio in Roker.

This year in 2017 we want to access more rural areas of Sunderland like Herrington, Washington and Houghton.

Supported by The Art Studio Sunderland, with funding from Sunderland City Council SIB Fund and The Cultural Spring Research and Development Fund.
